It’s a lovely book, something to dip into.
— David Gibson, author of a book “100 great street photographs” , UK
Can you write a good book about street photography without including many photos? It turns out you can! A thoughtful intro by the author, Ivan Kuznetsov, is followed by the carefully chosen, exceptional, diverse both in style and location, photographers. There is so much good stuff to unpack in this book from interviews, essays, descriptions of projects, stories, and even a bit of advice. I loved reading how different images came about and, as I have experienced on my own, how many photos turn out differently than intended but are better for it. Something I call, “happy accidents”. If it’s possible to create a truly different book on street photography, I believe Ivan has done just that. I enjoyed the book, learned from it and drew inspiration from it. I highly recommend it.
— Wendy Fischer Hartman, author of the street photography book “Chicago Daily” (self-published, 2022), Chicago, Illinois, USA
I recommend reading “The art and science of street photography” by Ivan Kuznetsov. It is a collection of interviews with photographers from all over the world, including both recognized names, who have been pillars of this “industry” for years, as well as lesser-known figures whose work is definitely worth getting to know. The book offers concise and inspiring reflections, in which the need to document reality from a typically street perspective is clearly visible. It is particularly noteworthy that this multicultural group also includes two Poles — Marcin Ryczek and Mathias Wasik. The book focuses primarily on the text layer, which may leave a slight visual deficit, but it does not mean a lack of photographs. This is compensated for by direct links to each artist’s portfolio, making it easy to explore their work.

This book is a must-read for anyone passionate about street photography. The interviews offer rich insights, practical tips, and inspiring perspectives from both masters and skilled amateurs. It deepens your understanding of photography as both art and expression. I came away with new ideas, motivation, and a fresh way of seeing the world through my lens. Totally worth reading. Highly recommended!

I’m enthusiastic about the idea! It was very nice to go back in time six years and see that my vision on photography is still the same.
